About the event

Join our next Northants Nature Girls meeting, where we'll be heading on a walk around Summer Leys Nature reserve (approx 2 miles) to see what wildlife we can spot. We'll then head to our private education area where we can enjoy a picnic with a campfire and a couple of bushcraft activities such as hapazome and whittling.

We'll have a small campfire where we will roast marshmallows to make smores (provided) and we'll show you how to whittle your own roasting stick! If you are able please do bring any other picnic bits you would like to nibble on (you can also cook something else on the fire if you like). There are logs for sitting on in the education area but feel free to bring a camping chair if you would prefer (we will have a few available to borrow). You can leave things in the centre whilst we head on our walk, we have a small fridge and will have a coolbox available for any food that needs to be refrigerated.

PLEASE NOTE: Car parking charges now apply for Summer Leys. Parking for members of the Wildlife Trust BCN is FREE - Members MUST register their vehicles to access free parking, for more information please visit here

Who are the Northants Nature Girls?

This is a group designed for women who love nature and the outdoors to meet like minded people, whilst enjoying time in nature. We aim these events for women in roughly their 20s and 30s but this is not a strict age bracket. Can't join us this time? We will be hosting monthly meetings throughout the year so keep your eyes peeled!

You can also join our Facebook group here, to connect with others and hear about upcoming events.

Mobility

We will be walking around the reserve at a steady pace, it is approximately 2 miles. The paths are flat and mostly gravel with a small grassy section.

What to bring

Paths may get muddy depending on the weather, we'd recommend walking boots or trainers. We will have marsmallows and biscuits available for smores, but please feel free to bring any picnic bits you would like. There are logs for sitting on in the education area but you may bring a camping chair if you prefer. We will have a few binoculars available to borrow for the walk but please bring your own if you'd like to.
