The new visitors centre at Summer Leys is arriving this week, enhancing the experience at one of our most popular reserves.
The visitors centre will be installed at the nature reserve near Rushden in Northamptonshire and will be staffed by a new team of Community and Wildlife officers, Megan and Nicole.
Over the next few days we will be completing the installation and fitting the centre out, and it will be officially launched with a weekend of activities on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 April.
The centre will feature an activity corner alongside a designated education area for school and community groups, plus a small retail area. Refreshments will also be available.
Megan Owen said: “Summer Leys is such a wonderful place for nature and nature lovers. We get a steady flow of visitors who come here to see the wetland wildlife, take a walk through the woodland or just meet friends and enjoy the birdsong.
“Now we want to offer more and provide a real visitor destination for our region. We’re really excited about the new centre and myself and Nicole are looking forward to getting to know the regular visitors, and welcoming new ones. If you’ve been to Summer Leys before then come along and see the new centre, and if you’ve never been before – even if you’ve never been to a nature reserve at all before – then why not visit, say hi and we’ll show you what wildlife to look out for and where to see it.”
On the weekend of April 2nd and 3rd there will be family activities and a guided walk. Then during the Easter holidays there is a packed schedule of events including a ‘Try Before You Buy’ Optics event on April 7.
