The purpose of this role is to be an advocate on behalf of the Wildlife Trust BCN in the communities surrounding Gamlingay or Waresley and Gransden Woods, and to be the eyes and ears on the ground on this reserve. You will be a positive voice for the Trust in the area, and help connect the Trust to local people. You'll be the kind of person who enjoys walking the reserve on a regular basis, and is happy to chat with visitors to help them enjoy the site sustainably and responsibly.

The most important aspect of this role is to connect the Trust with the local community, and to represent the Trust to local people. You might do this in a number of different ways including:

  • Being a presence onsite, especially during bluebell season, and encouraging people to act respectfully
  • Encouraging sustainable use of the reserve by discussing the topic with friends, family and neighbours
  • Signposting people on social media to relevant information
  • Reminding people to keep their dog on a lead
  • Posting positive updates linked to the reserve on social media
  • Promoting events on Facebook or by putting up posters
  • Reporting to the Trust if there are any concerns in the community regarding the reserves
  • Introducing the Trust to a community group

You will walk their local reserve on a regular basis and:

  • Report back any problems such as fallen trees or vandalism, with a detailed description, photographs and location
  • Pick up litter
  • Report any interesting wildlife to the local records centre

We are looking for people who live nearby and are happy to walk the reserve several times a week.
