About the event

Join us for a guided walk around one of the trails at Woodwalton Fen National Nature Reserve. Discover this exciting site, widely considered the birthplace of modern conservation. This beautiful reserve is internationally important for wildlife and provides a refuge for thousands of species of fen animals and plants, many of which are found nowhere else in the country. It is a National Nature Reserve, a Ramsar site, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). We will explore the peaceful paths through the reeds while on the lookout for sky dancing harriers, wheeling kites, flocks of finches, blossoming wildflowers and the busy bees, butterflies and beetles readying for spring. We’ll also have the opportunity to step inside the historic Rothschild Bungalow. Bring your binoculars!

As a celebration of the National Lottery players that help fantastic projects and organisations like ours to continue to make such a difference to people and communities, we are offering special free places for this walk on production of a National Lottery ticket. This promotion is part of National Lottery Open Week to say #ThanksToYou.

  • All National Lottery games qualify, including tickets for any National Lottery draw-based game or any National Lottery scratch card.
  • Proof can be physical or digital.
  • Date of draw or purchase is not relevant.
  • Please book a ticket for the walk online and bring your proof of Lottery purchase on the day.
  • All offers are subject to availability.
  • The Wildlife Trust BCN has the right to refuse entry in the event of the offer reaching capacity, as well as unforeseen circumstances.
  • In the event of queries on the day, the organisation's decision is final.
  • This offer is not exchangeable.

This walk is suitable for adults and children age 10+. Children must be accompanied by a booked adult. The walk is estimated to cover about 1.5 miles (2.4km) long. The ground is flat but soft, so may be unsuitable for most wheelchairs.

Please note, the closest toilets will be at the Countryside Centre at the Ramsey Heights nature reserve, further up the road.

A photographer may be present at the event and taking pictures for Wildlife Trust BCN use so please let us know if you'd rather not be included. Any children photographed will be asked for a signed media consent form from their responsible adult.
