About the event
Experiencing nature means different things to different people. For some, it might be a garden or allotment; for city dwellers, it could be birdwatching along a river or finding green space at work. Ensuring easy access to nature is essential, yet around 1 in 5 people in the UK lack access to green space. With approximately 84% of the population living in urban areas, it has never been more crucial to create more opportunities for people to connect with nature in cities and towns.
Cody Dock was set up to both help address this disconnect between people and nature in urban areas, and resolve the lack of biological recording in ecologically valuable but often overlooked ‘brownfield’ sites. Using her experience at Cody Dock as an example, Evie Crouch will talk about the potential of community hubs as a means of fostering a sense of local ownership over green spaces, and as powerful anchors that can springboard environmental awareness into tangible action.
