About the event

The impacts of short-term extreme temperature events on insects may be distinct from those of long-term increases in mean temperatures, affecting short-term survival and reproduction, making it crucial to study the impacts of these events to date. We measured the wing morphology of museum specimens of British butterfly species in the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge, to investigate the impact of historical heatwaves during development on adult morphology.

Emily has just finished an MPhil in the Agroecology and Insect Ecology groups in the Department of Zoology, Cambridge. Her thesis focused on understanding the impacts of extreme temperature events on different groups of insects. Emily will discuss her results and the implications for butterfly conservation under climate change.
