Is your youth looking for a relaxing activity which allows them to re-connect with the natural world? Maybe it has been a few years since they spent some time outdoors, although they used to love outdoor activities. This guided event at Paxton Pits Nature Reserve is a special session for youths 10 -18 years. No artistic skill required.

About the event

An opportunity for youths to practice some simple techniques to learn how to start and keep a nature journal on this outdoor workshop, with activities to help encourage drawing, writing and recording information. A great opportunity to spend some time with other young people in a peaceful setting, at this beautiful nature reserve.

The session will run outside at the beautiful Paxton Pits Nature Reserve.

This session is suitable for young people aged 10 plus up to 18 years. We will send you a parental consent form to complete and return in advance of the session.

Are you a member of the Wildlife Trust BCN? You can get money off your ticket by selecting a member ticket (we may ask for your membership number upon arrival for verification purposes). 

Ticket options includes an A5 sketchbook.

Please ensure you read the 'what to bring' section. 

We will have folding stools available to borrow. If you prefer you can bring your own folding stool or folding lightweight chair to sit on. A clipboard will be provided for each participant.

Please bring a re-useable bottle pre-filled with water, or a flask. Please be aware all litter/recycling will need to be taken home with you.

What to bring

Please wear or bring the following according to the weather. Summer: waterproof coat, long trousers and sleeves (essential), wide-brimmed sun hat, suncream and insect repellent. In the winter: warm waterproof coat, layers of warm clothing, hats, thick socks and gloves.

Please either bring a sketchbook/notebook, if you have one you’d like to use. Tickets do include an A5 sketchbooks. Also bring pencil, pen, and any easily portable materials you might like to use (e.g. coloured pencils, watercolour etc., but consider how easy they are to carry around and use outside); binoculars may be useful, as may a magnifying glass/loupe; phone/camera for grabbing ref pics for later use.

Parking information

Please park in the main car park opposite the Visitors Centre. Please be aware the road outside the education centre is used all day by haulage lorries accessing the quarry, so please take care on the way to and from the car park.

Bicycle parking

Please bring a lock and you can park your bike in the grounds of the Environmental Education Centre
