About the event

West Cambs 100s Youth Rangers is a new series of activities for secondary-age young people to attend independently. The sessions make use of a few different nature reserves between Gamlingay, Cambourne, and Comberton, with occasional activities on the edge of Cambridge. There is something most months, either on a Saturday morning or on a Friday during school holidays. It might be a practical task, walk, social event, talk or workshop. The activities are aimed at young people aged 11-17 interested in local wildlife and global environmental issues. Some activities are free.

Communities and Education Officer Becca will lead a guided walk around the nationally important Waresley and Gransden Wood Nature Reserve.  On the way, we'll discuss discuss identification of spring wildlife, and the conservation techniques used to look after the site. This is a chance to meet like-minded people, talk to staff about careers, learn more about this wood, and have a sociable morning outdoors.

Booking is essential because we need to have parental consent and emergency contact details

Mobility

We aim to make our events programme as accessible as possible and are happy to make reasonable adjustments to ensure as many people as possible can enjoy our activities. Participants will need to be able to walk 2-3 miles on narrow muddy paths. Please contact us to discuss your accessibility needs.

What to bring

To avoid bites, stings and scratches, long sleeves and long trousers are suggested for all participants. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting muddy, and sturdy shoes (wellies are often the most appropriate footwear for this site). The event will go ahead even if it rains, so you may require waterproofs. You might want to bring some water and snacks with you.
