Forest School, Nature Connection and Green Men - it's all happening in Bedford Borough!

                               Education Update

The autumn and winter gave me (Ruth) opportunity to get out into the community and speak to schools. It is heartening that in the depths of winter, while teachers are under a lot of pressure they are still enthusiastic to find out about ways in which the can improve their school grounds, try Forest Schools and integrate nature based learning into their curriculum delivery.

We continue to offer one free taster sessions where we can either consult with staff at your school, other setting or offer one free taster session. I also deliver taster sessions to youth groups in the community or out at Felmersham Gravel Pits.

Please contact me for more details or to discuss how a taster session can help you achieve your objectives - ruth.sneath@wildlifebcn.org

                               Community Talks

It was a joy to be on my home patch and deliver a talk about the work on the Wildlife Trust in Bedfordshire to Wootton over 55’s. This opportunity made me reflect on how much brilliant work we all do in Bedfordshire.

This followed a talk to our very own Bedford Local Group. It was a joy to see many new and old faces and to find out how the group continues to do vital work by connecting people with local nature. They welcome new members and can be contacted via Chris Wedge chrismwedge@gmail.com

We are able to offer talks on a couple of different topics. Please get in touch if your community group is interested in a talk from one of the team.

                                   Events

Following on from our fully booked Forest Skills event at Felmersham back in the autumn, we will be delivering more events out of Felmersham Gravel Pits. These will include Youth Ranger pop up sessions. These sessions, held in school holidays, are aimed at young people aged 11 to 18 years who would like to make a positive difference to their local environment. If you are interested to join in further sessions please get in contact with me.

We continue to work with The Higgins in Bedford to deliver exciting hands on workshops in the school holidays. Our February workshop was based around the Green Man and involved storytelling and sculpting with clay. Please keep an eye out on their website, where you can book onto future workshops.

Further upcoming events are Nature Journaling on Tuesday 13th June with the wonderful local artist Agnes Becker from ‘We are Stardust’. This will be a 2 hour workshop held at one of our north Beds reserves. On Sunday 23rd July we will be running a Family Wildlife Day where you will have the chance to lake dip, look for invertebrates and join in a sensory walk. Bookings for these events will be open in the next few weeks.
