From reeds and rushes to duckweed and pondweeds, there are a wide variety of aquatic and marginal plants. A visit to a local pond or stream can reveal a surprising number of plants, when you look a bit closer.
Unlike some plant groups, many species can be easily identified without flowers present, by looking at their leaves and structure. In fact many truly aquatic species have rather small and non-descript flowers.
