About the event

This Month -  Build a plant pot parabolic reflector and take it on a birdsong walk. Join of for this special session with Junior Wildlife Ambassador, Henry. Henry will show us how he made his own plant pot parabolic and how you can make your own. This simple contraption, made of upcycled common materials, helps amplify and concentrate the sounds of nature. We'll be putting them to the test too with a guided walk around the nature reserve. When connected to a smart phone, we can use an identification app to discover all the species singing around us. You'll be able to tune into the sounds around us and get some brilliant recordings.

We'll also be decorating a plant pot and planting sunflower seeds, providing food for the birds later in the season.

We suggest an adult is available to assist each child with the construction and to provide a smart phone to use as the recording device.

Take a look here for more detail about the plant pot parabolic idea.

About Wildlife Watch:

We absolutely love wildlife - and bet you do too! Wildlife Watch is here for kids that can't get enough of exploring the great outdoors or those desperate to find out a bit more about the weird and wonderful creatures we share our world with. Wildlife Watch is the junior branch of The Wildlife Trusts and the UK's leading environmental action club for children and families.

Each session will have a different theme to learn about, activities to try and crafts to make. This group is designed for Primary-aged children (7-11). Younger children are welcome to attend but may not get the most out of the event (see also Little Bugs). Older children are also welcome (See also Youth Rangers).

The sessions will be outside so please come dressed appropriately. You don't have to be a Wildlife Watch member to attend, everyone is welcome. However, if you are members you will benefit from the discount attendance fee and your activities can count towards your awards!

A drink and snack are included. Why not bring a packed lunch and stay longer?

A photographer may be present at the event and taking pictures for Wildlife Trust BCN use so please let us know if you'd rather not be included. Any children photographed will be asked for a signed media consent form from their responsible adult.
