Summer Leys Appeal

Please help us restore this amazing wildlife haven - 25 years old this year

Summer Leys, in the Upper Nene Valley in Northamptonshire, is one of the most important areas for wildlife in the county.

A Site of Special Scientific Interest and part of a Special Protection Area, this superb wetland is an ideal habitat for wintering wildfowl and waders; gadwall and wigeon reach nationally important numbers here and they’re joined by bittern, golden plover, and a wide variety of ducks. It’s not all birds, though; 16 species of dragonfly, such as the uncommon hairy dragonfly, have been recorded here.

For this reason, Summer Leys is extremely popular with visitors. However, the reserve is in real need of access and habitat improvements to stop its condition declining, which is why we've launched this appeal – to ask if you can help us undertake some vital restoration work to ensure this nationally important wildlife habitat is protected.

Please see our PDF with more info on why this project is needed.
