About the event

Youth Rangers is a group for secondary-aged young people (11-17 years) keen to make a positive difference to their local environment. We meet throughout the year at various Cambridgeshire nature reserves and would love to welcome you to our group.

Please note:
Bookings are not confirmed until we have received your completed paperwork and consent form (for each child).

Join us for another fantastic session of learning real, practical conservation skills, learning from industry professionals and making a positive impact for wildlife. You do not need any experience to attend. This month we're at Thorpe Wood nature reserve. This beautiful ancient woodland consists of a canopy of oak and ash with hazel and field maple below. The northern section is actively managed by traditional coppicing with baskets weaved around the stools to stop deer and rabbits grazing on them. We'll be joining the local reserves teams to learn how to coppice the trees, how to ID trees, and enjoy the sights of autumn in this lovely woodland. Refreshments provided (hot drink and biscuits).

Please bring water and dress appropriately for the weather - Layers and waterproofs, or hats and sun lotion if needed. Long sleeves and trousers recommended. Please wear sensible boots or wellies.

Additional information

  • No toilet facilities available for this session.
  • These sessions are designed for participants to attend independently. We try to be as inclusive as possible, but this session may not suit every young person, and unfortunately we cannot provide 1:1 support.
  • Parents/guardians will be asked to fill out a consent form to include relevant concerns/issues to help us ensure participants get the most out of the session.
  • Please refer to our event terms and conditions webpage for details on refunds and cancellations, as well as general information about how we run our events.
  • The benefits of joining the Wildlife Trust BCN include a reduced rate for many events. Family membership is from just £5 a month.

On booking you will receive an email with further guidance but if you have any more questions please do get in touch with Communities and Education Officer Laura at laura.allen@wildlifebcn.org.

A photographer may be present at the event and taking pictures for Wildlife Trust BCN use so please let us know if you'd rather not be included. Under 18s will have an adult asked to complete a media consent form.
